For those of you who have patiently sat through the Loooong story on the background of our lawsuit (with our partners here in Bend) against the Realtor and her company that sold us property at the Inn of the 7th Mountain - you will no longer have to suffer through the continuing story.
Although we cannot reveal the terms of the settlement (one of those legal things), it appears that we have reached a settlement. It does not give us what we really wanted, but it is much better than the proverbial sharp stick in the eye. We can only hope that the result causes certain people some pain.
A final note on this: for those of you who think that fairness is the rule of law, be advised that the law is indeed blind and complicated - maybe beyond the realm of rational understanding. Also note that the people with the money have a BIG, LARGE, GIGANTIC, advantage in the system. I could now digress on the issue of capital punishment - but this would probably not be productive (and I might be accused of being a closet Democrat).
ANYWAY - at least it is over!

Bad News/Good News X2
The bad news first - unemployment in the county is now at 11%, but I'm sure the new administration will make things better!
Good news #1 - KOHD TV announced this morning that there is a new stoplight in Redmond. For those of you not aware of the geography of the area, Redmond is only 20 minutes from Bend. That means, unless there is something of higher priority (like an interview with the pregnant man) we will be able to run over there this weekend and see it!
Good news #2 - each morning the KOHD TV weatherman has his dog on the set with him - laying on the top of a platform in front of the weatherman and his display. The dog is very cute but we have been somewhat concerned as the animal doesn't move! Wasn't sure if the animal was stuffed or alive! Well today the dog was not only moving but standing up!
Life is sweet in Bend, where else can you get a two-fer Good News day!

Freezing Fog
For those of you who complained about the last two postings, the incomprehensible murmurings on things ancestry, we have something more interesting - hopefully.
We have a phenomena in the this area called freezing fog. For those of you who are bored an explanation can be found here:

Helen took a bunch of pictures during one of the events and are below. It's worth DOUBLE CLICKING on the pictures to get a slide show. When Picasso web albums opens up click on the SLIDE SHOW button at the top left for a full-screen slide show. The last two pictures (birds and sunset) are thrown in for general interest - enjoy.

Just in Case....
Okay, so as to not offend "Saint Toni", which I would never, repeat never do, as I am so grateful that she loves my brother.... I don't know for sure her heritage. Croatian - Polish???? I hope I have not offended ANYONE!
I would like to mention growing up in "Dot"(Wyandotte County) - it was always a treat to be invited into the homes and families of the "Strawberry Hill" and surrounding neighborhoods. I think just the fact that they all had relatives living in the same town, sometimes on the same street was amazing to me. Our relatives were all in Kentucky, there were no big family gatherings, not in Kansas anyway. So to this day a good polish sausage, a plate of cabbage rolls and a loaf of poviticia brings me home. And for the record.... I haven't found that in Bend yet!
Happy New Year Everyone,
Helen

Correction 2
OK - not to start the year in a contrary way, but CROATIAN? Although I have no particular knowledge of, or interest in, the historical conflicts between certain ethnic groups from central Europe I am part POLISH, not Croatian. And that's about all I know about that part of my heritage!
